If you watch the news you've probably heard about the huge floods that ruined a half of downtown Calgary and nearly wiped out the town's of Canmore and High River last week. My heart goes out to everyone who lost the homes and belongings that they've worked so hard for. On the news I watched as an entire house was carried down the river and crushed into pieces as it slammed into a half-submerged bridge. It really is a terrible situation, and if you feel like lending a hand, you can donate to the Canadian Red Cross to help our flood victims here. They are also in need of food and clothing donations which you can find out more about here.
I was very lucky, and my home wasn't effected, but, as a result of the flooding I'm off of work this week (my building downtown was flooded and is now closed for the city-wide cleanup). With a little more spare time than usual, I've been cooking and baking like crazy. Below are some of my favourite summertime recipes. I made the Cayenne rubbed chicken last night and it was SO delicious...the berry cake is next on my list of things to try (although chances are slim that mine will look that fabulous).
